11 Technical, Senior High schools receive STEM education materials

 A total of 11 Technical and Se­nior High Schools (SHS) in the Central Region yesterday received Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) equip­ment from Camfed Ghana to enhance practical learning.

The equipment worth over GH¢400, 000 would provide practical, hands-on experience to complement theoretical knowledge.

The beneficiary schools include, Abakrampa SHTS, Aburaman SHS, Asuansi Technical institute, Nsaba SHS, Kwanyako SHS, and Method­ist SHS.

The rest were Mankesim SHS, Kwegyir Aggrey SHS, Ekumfi TI Ahmadiyya SHS, Mozano SHS and Gomoa SHTS.

Opening one of the science laboratories, the National Director, CAMFED Ghana, Ms Fairuza Sa­fian, said “Our goal is to create an enabling environment for effective teaching and learning and we also want students to gain the practical knowledge, not just theoretical understanding, so they can excel in their studies and beyond.”

According to her an interactive and modern tools could make learning more engaging and excit­ing, motivating students to explore STEM subjects deeply.

Ms Safian said using STEM equipment helps students de­velop essential skills, such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and technical abilities, which are valuable in various fields.

“Familiarity with STEM tools prepares students for future careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, providing a head start in these competitive fields and also access to advanced equipment encourages innovation and creativ­ity, allowing students to experiment and develop new ideas.

Ms Safian said her outfit has unveiled a six-year strategic plan aimed at transforming the edu­cational landscape for students in Ghana, adding that the plan would ensure that school children not only thrive academically but also transition smoothly into their future careers.

“The plan is to provide com­prehensive support to marginal­ised children, particularly those in schools with limited resources and embedding best educational practices into the national system,” she explained.

Dr Juliette Dufie Otami, District Director, Ghana Education Ser­vice, who expressed gratitude to Camfed said the equipment would provide a Hands-on experience for the students.

“STEM equipment is vital for fostering a deeper understanding of STEM subjects and preparing students for future academic and professional success,” she said.

The Vice Principal, Asuansi Technical institute, Mr Peter Yaw Anim Amoani, on behalf of the beneficiaries thanked Camfed for the kind gesture and said

“This equipment would provide active learning to help the students better understand complex con­cepts and principles when it comes to STEM.
