The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has said 170 out of the 307 suspects it arrested, following a coordinated raid operation by tactical teams of the Command, led by the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth Igweh on February 11 at Gidan-Dambe, Dei-dei – Zuba, Abuja, have been profiled and arraigned at the Abuja Environmental Protection Board Mobile Court in Area 3, Garki District.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, noted that after a screening of the arrested 307 suspects, 170 of them were found wanting.
The statement further stated that of the 170 suspects, 165 were profiled and arraigned for simple and misdemeanour offences, while the remaining five namely; Al zuma Aliyu, Mohammed Yakubu, Ishiaku Yakubu, Abubakar Lawal and Abba Mohammed, were charged for felonious offences such as armed robbery and peddling of illicit/hard drugs.
The statement partly reads, “Following the coordinated raid operation by the tactical teams of the FCT Police Command, led by the Commissioner of Police himself on February 11 at Gidan-Dambe, Dei-dei – Zuba, Abuja, where 307 suspects were arrested, the suspects were screened and 170 of them were found wanting.
“A hundred and sixty-five of the 170 suspects found wanting, were promptly profiled by the police operatives and arraigned in the Abuja Environmental Protection Board Mobile Court in Area 3, Garki District, Abuja for simple/misdemeanour offences, while the remaining five of the 170 suspects namely; Al zuma Aliyu, Mohammed Yakubu, Ishiaku Yakubu, Abubakar Lawal and Abba Mohammed were charged for felonious offences such as armed robbery and peddling of illicit/hard drugs.
“The remaining 137 suspects not found guilty of any offence were released to reunite with their loved ones and warned to shun places of hibernation for criminals.”
Meanwhile, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth C. Igweh, expressed determination to ensure that such operations would be carried out regularly, to cleanse the territory of criminals, and to ensure the safety of all.
PUNCH Metro reported on Wednesday that a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja had sentenced a man, Akinosun Omotayo, who stole and attempted to rape his victim on New Year’s Day, to 10 years’ imprisonment.
Justice Modupe Nico-Clay held that the prison term shall begin from the day the convict was remanded in 2019.
Omotayo was first arraigned on three counts bordering on stealing, attempted rape, and assault preferred against him by the Lagos State Government.
