It has been a difficult season for Barcelona with results not always going their way, forcing Xavi Hernandez to decide to leave the club at the end of the season.

After winning the La Liga title last season and improving the squad in the summer, things have not improved for Barça as expected, and one of the major reasons behind that has been injuries.

Indeed, Barça have been hamstrung by injuries to key players one after the other, leaving Xavi without his best XI on a regular basis.

And just when things were looking better on the fitness front, the Catalans have been struck by another injury blow.

Marc Guiu injured

Indeed, teenage striker Marc Guiu has suffered an injury while playing for Barça Atletic this past weekend, reports SPORT.

The 18-year-old made his senior debut for Barça this season and has been a regular in the first-team squad list in recent months.

However, the La Masia product was in action for Barça Atletic this weekend, when they took on SD Logrones at Estadi Johan Cruyff.

Guiu came on as a substitute for Mamadou Mbacke in the 72nd minute during the game and just a few minutes in, he was seen feeling his hamstring after a sprint.

The 18-year-old immediately indicated to the bench that he felt a ‘pinch’ but had to see out the game as all substitutions were used up.

Now, it has emerged that Guiu is indeed injured and will undergo tests today at the club’s training facilities to assess the severity of the issue.

Concern for Barcelona

This development is a concern for Barcelona as they are already without Ferran Torres and Joao Felix for the upcoming La Liga clash against Granada.

Meanwhile, Vitor Roque will also be suspended for the game after being sent off against Alaves, leaving Barça with Robert Lewandowski as the sole option for the No. 9 position if Guiu is also out injured.

It must be remembered that the Blaugrana plan on appealing against Roque’s sending-off but there are no guarantees that his suspension will be overturned.
