The stage is set for the grand finale of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League at Munich’s iconic Fußball Arena München on Saturday, May 31, 2025.
As Europe’s top clubs gear up for another season of intense competition, the anticipation for the final showdown in this historic venue is palpable.
Returning to the German city for the first time since 2012, the 2025 final will mark the climax of the 70th season of Europe’s most prestigious club tournament, where football history is destined to be made.
The last UCL final played at the Munich Stadium was in 2012 when English club, Chelsea FC defeated home team Bayern Munich on penalties.
PUNCH Online reports that the draw for this much-anticipated league phase will take place in Monaco on Thursday, August 29.
In March 2024, PUNCH Online did an explainer on the new Champions League format.
History will be made when the final of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League—the most prestigious club competition in world football—takes place at Munich’s Fußball Arena München.
A separate release on Thursday was obtained from the club website, which disclosed this.
The highlight of European football’s club calendar returns to the German city for the first time since 2012.
“The Fußball Arena München took less than three years to build from start to finish and was completed on 30 April 2005. It was conceived following a referendum in October 2001, when 65.8% of Munich’s citizens voted to construct a new arena rather than regenerate the Olympiastadion, the venue for the 1972 Summer Olympic Games.
“The ground staged the 2006 FIFA World Cup opening match between Germany and Costa Rica before hosting three further group fixtures as well as a round of 16 tie and France’s semi-final win against Portugal.
“The stadium has seen its fair share of drama since it first opened for business, not least the final of the 2012 Champions League when Chelsea defied home advantage to beat Bayern on penalties,” it read partly.
What do UCL winners get?
The UEFA Champions League trophy stands 73.5 cm tall and weighs 7.5 kg. “It may not be an artistic masterpiece, but everybody in football is keen to get their hands on it,” said creator Jürg Stadelmann.
The winners will earn the right to play against the winners of the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League in the 2025 UEFA Super Cup.
They will also gain a place in the league stage phase of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League if they have not qualified via their domestic competition.
