Former Nigerian international, Dosu Joseph has warned the Super Falcons to avoid conceding first against South Africa ahead of Friday’s 2024 Olympic Games qualifiers first leg.

The Super Falcons will play host to the Bayana Bayana at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja in the first leg encounter, on the 5th of April, while the Nigerian team will travel to the Loftus Versfield Stadium, Pretoria for the second leg.

Though the Super Falcons are miles ahead in terms of their achievements in Women’s football in Africa and beyond, South Africa’s Bayana Bayana are one of the most improved teams on the continent and are presently the Champions of Africa after they were crowned in Morocco in 2022.

However, in a chat with Completesports.com, the Atlanta Olympic gold medalist stated that the Super Falcons must utilise every goal scoring chances that comes their way.

He also urged the team not to concede first because it will put the team under pressure.

“The Super Falcons have been dominating the women’s football in Africa for ages but a times the team struggle to qualify for the Olympics even when we qualify for the World Cup as easy as the tournament.

“Don’t forget that the South Africans have come to Nigeria to defeat the Super Falcons some years back and they have also stopped us from qualifying from few tournaments. But I want to believe the present Super Falcons knows what to do because they really want to qualify for the Olympic Games.

“I hope the fans in Abuja will come out to support the team. But I think they should have taken the game to places where the Super Falcons can get massive support from the fans. However, what is important is for the ladies to go out there and fight for the victory.

“They should take their goal scoring chances and don’t allow South Africa to score first because it will put the team under pressure.”
