Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has described the action of the Libyan authorities to hold the players hostages for several hours at the Al-Abraq Airport as very embarrassing.

Recall that the Super Eagles are due to play hosts Libya in the city of Benghazi, where they hoped to seal a qualification berth for the finals in Morocco late next year.

But after being stranded for more than 16 hours at an airport 250 km (155 miles) away from their intended destination, the Nigerian players said they would not fulfill the fixture.

Reacting to the development via his official Instagram handle, Ndidi stated that this is not football being displayed by Libya.

“This is not football. Very embarrassing. Hostage to a national team. Disgrace.”

The Leicester City star was part of the Nigerian side that beat Libya 1-0 on Friday thanks to Fissayo Dele-Bashiru’s strike.
