Former Nigeria international Ifeanyi Udeze has said it will be difficult for the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after their shock loss to Benin Republic.

The Eagles’ poor qualifying campaign suffered a huge setback after they went down 2-1 to Gernot Rohr-led Cheetahs of Benin Republic.

Despite taking the lead through Raphael Onyedika, the Beninoise fought back to go into the break 2-1 ahead.

Reacting to the shock defeat, Udeze said things are now very complicated for the team.

“To qualify for the World Cup now will be very difficult for the Eagles,” Udeze said on Brila FM. “But we still have to continue supporting the team.”

The defeat to Benin Republic leaves the Eagles in fifth place on three points in the table.

On their part, Benin Republic temporarily top the group on seven points.

The Eagles will resume in the qualifiers in March 2025 when they will face Rwanda away and host Zimbabwe in Uyo.
