As the hours and minutes draw near for the crucial World Cup qualifier between Nigeria and South Africa here at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, Leicester City forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, has assured Nigerians that the Super Eagles have enough gas and energy to stop Bafana Bafana and other teams for a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals taking place in USA, Canada and Mexico, Completesports.com reports.

“We’re not just prepared but as well motivated to win, not just this game against South Africa but other games in the series,” starts Iheanacho while responding to a question on Super Eagles preparation for the big showdown.

“The AFCON has come and gone. We’ve put everything about it behind. The World Cup ticket is what’s uppermost in our minds and we’re determined to face it squarely.

“We cannot afford to sit back and watch the next World Cup from the TV sets. No, we have to be there representing our country and the continent of Africa.

“To achieve this, we have to win our games, not only against South Africa but also against the other teams in the qualifiers.”

Super Eagles are fourth in Group C standings of the World Cup qualifiers with Republic of Benin in the driving seat following Thursday’s 1-0 defeat of Rwanda in Ivory Coast.

A win for the Eagles against South Africa’s Bafana will see the Finidi George side overtake Benin Republic on the log with five points as against the Squirrels’ four points.

The Nigeria/South Africa Match gets underway at 8pm, local time.
