Stanley Nwabali has said having Maduka Okoye back in the Super Eagles will bring out the best in other goalkeepers in the team.

Okoye is among the 23 players summoned by head coach, Finidi George for Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.

The Udinese shot stopper was not considered for a place in the Super Eagles squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Okoye earned his recall on the back of his impressive performances for the Zebras in the 2023/24 season.

His return is expected to create more competition in the goalkeeping position.

Nwabali however said there is no pressure on him, stating that competition for places will only bring out the best in all the players.

“I’m not under pressure. Maduka is a very good goalkeeper to be honest. This will be my first time of working with him, Nwabali told the Super Eagles media.

“His presence is going to motivate everyone to do well. Having him around will bring out the best in all of us. It is good when we have quality goalkeepers in the team.

“He has really done well at his club this season which is good for the team.”‘
