Benin Republic edged Rwanda 1-0 in their third game in Group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Abidjan on Thursday.

Douko Dodo was the hero for Benin Republic as his 37th minute strike secured his side their first win in the qualifying campaign.

Benin Republic went into the game on the back of eight games without a win (four defeats, four draws).

The win took the coach Gernot Rohr-led side from bottom to second position on four points while Rwanda, also on four points, remain in first position.

Up next for Benin Republic is a tough fixture against fourth-placed Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Monday, 10 June also in Abidjan.

The Eagles will be looking to record their first win in the qualifiers when they host South Africa in Uyo on Friday.
