Ibrahim Olawoyin says his maiden Super Eagles invitation came as a surprise to him, reports Completesports.com
Olawoyin was called up as a replacement for Nathan Tella in Nigeria’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa and Squirrels of Benin Republic.
Tella pulled out of the squad due to personal reasons.
Olawoyin said he wasn’t expected to be t invited to the national team at this stage of his career.
” It is amazing and I feel great about it, it’s a great privilege for me which I will cherish for life,” he told the Super Eagles media.

“I didn’t see it coming and it came as a surprise for me but it finally came and I have been looking forward to it.
“Super Eagles is different because it’s all-round quality players, they came from everywhere and they will make you better.”
The winger will be looking to make his Super Eagles’ debut in the upcoming games.
The former Rangers star vowed to give his best if he is selected.
” I will surely give my best because like I said it’s a privilege wearing this jersey representing the whole nation, I will surely give my best”
Olawoyin scored eight goals and provided six assists in the 2023/24 season.
