Brazilian club São Paulo are set to sign the Newcastle United defender Jamal Lewis.
The 26-year-old has struggled for regular game time at Newcastle and he needs a fresh start. A move to the Brazilian club would be ideal for him and it would help him get his career back on track.
São Paulo have secured an agreement with the Premier League club and the defender is expected to complete his move today. According to a report from UOL, the formalities of the transfer should be completed soon.
Newcastle United currently have Lewis Hall as the first-choice left-back at the club. Jamal Lewis cannot afford to sit on the bench at Newcastle at this stage of his career and he needs to play regularly. The Brazilian outfit will be able to provide him with such opportunities. A move to South America could be an exciting challenge for him, and it remains to be seen whether he can get his career back on track.

São Paulo are one of the biggest clubs in Brazilian football and he will be hoping to challenge for major trophies with them.
The 26-year-old was highly rated during his time at Norwich City, and he could be a key player for the South American club if he can regain his form and confidence. The report does not share the details of the transfer and it remains to be seen whether the Brazilian club can sign him for a nominal price.
His move to Newcastle has not worked out and therefore it is fair to assume that the Magpies are in position to demand a premium for him. His contract with them expires in 2026 and they will look to get rid of the player while he still holds some value.
