Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has been linked with a move away from the club this summer.
The 27-year-old could be on the move in search of regular playing time. He has been linked with clubs like Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Fulham. A report from Football Insider claims that the player has now informed Liverpool that he wants to leave if their asking price is met.
Liverpool value the defender at £40-45 million and it will be interesting to see if any club is willing to pay up for him. Gomez is undoubtedly one of the best defenders in the league and he has established himself as a reliable performer for Liverpool. Even though he is not a regular starter for them, he has been very useful for the club over the last few years.
Apart from his defensive quality, he is versatile enough to slot into full-back roles and as a defensive midfielder. There is no doubt that he would improve most teams in the country. However, the asking price seems quite steep and his suitors will hope to sign him for a more reasonable price. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.

Liverpool are already lacking in depth in the defensive unit, especially after the departure of Joel Matip. They might not want to weaken the squad any further by letting Gomez leave this summer. Liverpool will have to bring in a couple of central defenders before sanctioning the departure of the England international.
With that said, Gomez needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and sitting on the bench at Liverpool is unlikely to benefit him. It remains to be seen whether he decides to force an exit in the coming weeks.
