Brighton have already spoken to Roberto De Zerbi about a new deal, so Liverpool may have some competition if they try to appoint the Italian as their next manager.

Because of his work with the Seagulls, Roberto De Zerbi has gained a lot of admirers.

Graham Potter’s decision to go to Chelsea caused many to dread about Brighton. However, it’s arguable that the 44-year-old has elevated the team to a new level.

Given that Jurgen Klopp will be leaving Anfield at the end of the season, it should come as no surprise that De Zerbi is one of the candidates for the Liverpool position.

However, it seems that Brighton won’t just let him go without a struggle.

The Seagulls and De Zerbi have already discussed a new deal, according a talkSPORT story.

Furthermore, despite Manchester United’s and Liverpool’s enthusiasm, De Zerbi has not yet indicated that he plans to leave the Amex Stadium anytime soon.

It appears that De Zerbi’s current contract will end in 2026. Brighton therefore have a good advantage when it comes to clubs expressing interest.

It seems like Xabi Alonso is the clear choice for Liverpool. Considering that he is a former player who was incredibly loved at Anfield and is currently doing admirably for Bayer Leverkusen, it could be risky to pursue anybody else.

But choosing De Zerbi would likely be a very smart move if they do decide to take a different route. His abilities in the Premier League have now been demonstrated. Furthermore, Brighton undoubtedly play some of the division’s most thrilling, high-octane football, exactly the kind of football that the Liverpool fans would love at Anfield.

His current club are evidently hopeful that they can persuade De Zerbi to commit to a long-term future with them before Liverpool have the opportunity to intensify their interest.
