Despite failing with two bids to prise him from Goodison Park over the summer, Manchester United are expected to return for Jarrad Branthwaite in 2025.
It’s no surprise that centre-halves are already topping INEOS’ shortlist, as all of Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire are out of contract at the end of the season, though the latter’s terms do include a one-year option, which may well be activated in the new year.
One report last week claimed that new sporting director Dan Ashworth was spearheading the club’s interest in Branthwaite, with the INEOS chief ‘determined’ to welcome him to Old Trafford ahead of the 2025/2026 campaign.
Meanwhile, the one-capped England international has been made to wait to get his season underway after spending five months sidelined with a groin injury. During his absence, Everton sustained four defeats and one draw in their opening five matches but picked up their first win yesterday with a 2-1 triumph over Crystal Palace.
An ‘immense’ display from Branthwaite in first 24/25 start
Branthwaite made his long-awaited return from injury to start the clash and, despite conceding to another reported INEOS target, Marc Guehi, had an ‘immense impact’, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Per EFC Statto, he also recorded an impressive five recoveries, five clearances and three interceptions while winning four ground fuels and three aerial duels – though nothing will feel as sweet as the three points!
