On June 1, The Mirror revealed that Manchester United had reportedly begun targeting Matheus Cunha.

Not only have the Red Devils shortlisted the Wolverhampton Wanderers talisman but they are believed to be willing to double his £60k-a-week wages in order to convince him of a move to Old Trafford.

United’s scouts frequently watched Cunha in action in 2023/2024 as they prepared for a vital summer window, in which they have to replace long-serving striker Anthony Martial, who leaves as a free agent at the end of the month.

Currently, Rasmus Hojlund is the only recognised centre-forward in the squad. Marcus Rashford has been deployed up front on numerous occasions, but it’s evident that he’s more comfortable playing on the left flank.

Cunha, 25, registered 12 Premier League goals and seven assists last season as the Midlands outfit recorded a 14th-placed finish.

Cunha affirms Wolves loyalty

Despite finding himself linked to the 20-time champions, the former Atletico Madrid star is keen on continuing at the Molineux for the foreseeable future. He addressed the matter in a recent interview with Globo Esporte, saying: “Whenever I can, I come to accompany you. I always want to show that [the affection] is reciprocal.

“Then we see this rush [Manchester United]. But I’m very happy at Wolves. My focus is on resting and making the most of it with my family. I’m very happy at Wolves. The focus now is to have better seasons and help the club.”
