After failing with their opening £15 million bid earlier in the window, Fulham have tested Manchester United’s resolve with a £20m proposal for Scott McTominay.

Yet, the Cottagers’ offer still falls below United’s valuation, with Galatasaray having all but accepted that they’ve been priced out of a move for the Scotsman despite establishing their strong interest.

United are standing firm in their £25-30m asking price, which is understandable given that McTominay is on the back of a career-best goalscoring campaign, scoring 10 times in all competitions.

It’s thought that even Tottenham Hotspur are admirers of the Carrington graduate, whose sale would generate straight profit for the Reds, but are perhaps less likely to accelerate their interest after signing young prospects Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall.

Erik ten Hag entirely unwilling to sanction McTominay’s exit

Of course, a realistic option is that McTominay stays put at Old Trafford, which would certainly align with Erik ten Hag’s desires. The manager has already affirmed his wishes to keep his trusty lieutenant at the club beyond this summer, saying after the recent win over Rangers:  “I think we have very good players, so they’ll always have an interest from other clubs. If you score 10 goals in a season and perform very well for Scotland, there will be an interest.

“We want to actually keep him [McTominay] because he’s a very important player for our squad. We’ve seen what he can contribute last season. When we had the sixes and he could play in a more advanced role. He’s a highly interesting player for our team.”

TeamTalk claims that while McTominay has been mulling over his future due to outside noise, he is more than willing to stay and fight for his place in 2024/2025; Casemiro’s evident struggles in last weekend’s Liverpool defeat may have only heightened the 27-year-old’s chances of cementing a starting role.
