Youths in Adamawa State on Tuesday turned the #October1protest  into a celebration of President Bola Tinubu’s achievements.

Echoing a similar move during the #EndBadGovernance protests, the youth gathered at the Unity Flyover near the police headquarters in Yola, the state capital, rolling out drums in praise of the president’s leadership.

Under the banner of Concerned Youths of Adamawa, scores of young people flooded the major streets of Yola in a solidarity walk, marking Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary with open support for Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking to journalists after the walk, the Convener of the group, Yakubu Girei, explained that their demonstration was a show of support for the “laudable policies and programmes” introduced by Tinubu, which he said have started yielding positive results.

“We believe in the direction the president is taking the country, and today’s walk is our own contribution to ensuring the continuation of his good work,” Girei remarked.

Meanwhile, the Adamawa State Police Command had earlier warned against any attempts to disrupt the Independence Day celebrations with protests.

In a statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, on Monday, the command assured residents that the police were ready to tackle any form of unrest.

“On the strength of this, the command urges all citizens and residents of Adamawa State to go about their lawful business and shun anything that could lead to harm in the name of protests,” the statement read.

Nguroje added, “Chaos can lead to the loss of lives and property, and any violent protest by unidentified persons is unacceptable. The planned nationwide protest has the potential to be hijacked by miscreants.”

The statement further noted that a stakeholders’ meeting had been held to dissuade faceless groups from pursuing protests, warning that such actions could escalate into violent clashes.

“The Commissioner of Police assures the faceless protest organiseers that his doors are open for dialogue and encourages them to follow the laid-down procedures for protests in Nigeria,” Nguroje said, stressing that security personnel were on high alert to prevent any disturbances.
