As part of measures to ensure a peaceful atmosphere during the proposed national protest on Independence Day, security agents in Sokoto State on Monday embarked on a show of force within the metropolis.

Our correspondent, who witnessed the event, observed that the security agents included personnel from the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other sister agencies.

The team, moving in a combat-ready formation, proceeded from the police headquarters in the state through major roads such as Bello Way, Emir Yahya, Sahara, Maiduguri Road, and Diplomat, among others.

Meanwhile, the spokesman for the police command in the state, ASP Ahmed Rufai, reaffirmed that no group or individual had submitted any letter of intent to protest in the state.

He explained that the command, along with other security agencies, decided to embark on the show of force to deter troublemakers from causing any unrest in the state.

He further stated that security agencies in the state are fully prepared to ensure a peaceful atmosphere during the Independence Day celebrations.

“We decided to embark on the show of force to warn anyone intending to cause trouble that Sokoto is not a place for them,” Rufai said. “Even though no group or individual has submitted any letter of intent to organise a protest in the state,” he added.
