Manchester United signed Sofyan Amrabat on loan from Fiorentina at the start of the season.
The Moroccan had an impressive World Cup campaign and he was expected to hit the ground running in the Premier League and establish himself as a key player for Manchester United. However, the transfer has not worked out as expected and Amrabat has been quite mediocre for his new club.
A report from Gazzetta Dello Sport via SportWitness claims that the Moroccan midfielder is now feeling nostalgic about a return to Italy and Manchester United do not plan to sign him permanently either.
It seems that the 27-year-old will play in Italy next season. He has a contract with Fiorentina until the summer of 2025 and he will return to his parent club upon the expiry of his loan deal.
Sofyan Amrabat warming up for Manchester United
Sofyan Amrabat could play for Juventus
Meanwhile, the report adds that Juventus director Cristiano Giuntoli is a fan of the Moroccan and it remains to be seen whether the Turin giants decide to make a move for the £65k-a-week star in the summer.
Fiorentina could be open to getting rid of the player permanently having loaned him out to Manchester United this season.
Either way, his underwhelming spell with Manchester United is likely to be over in the summer.
Manchester United will have to invest in a quality central midfielder who will add physicality, drive, and defensive cover to the side. The Red Devils have looked quite vulnerable in the middle of the park this season and they need to plug the gaps in their midfield during the summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, Amrabat will look to get his career back on track with regular football in Italy next season.
