However, United legend Scholes has since revealed his concerns over the club's ability to win a league title with Martinez in defence.
Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, he said: "Even when he's fit, he's not good enough to win the Premier League."
Martinez then took to social media to angrily respond to Scholes by downplaying his ability to play in South America.
"This jinx guy is really hurting.... You put him in Argentina, and he wouldn’t survive," the Argentine wrote on Instagram.
Martinez wasn't the only United centre-back who faced criticism from Scholes as Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro were also questioned.
When asked if he rates De Ligt, who signed from Bayern Munich in the summer, Scholes said: "Not really.
"Where are your ambitions? I’m talking about getting a team to win the Premier League.
"Are you going to win the Premier League with De Ligt and Yoro as your centre-halves?
"Is 'quite good' good enough for Manchester United?"

"He seems to have got worse as he’s got older. Those clubs [Juventus and Bayern Munich] have got rid of him for a reason.
"Yoro is a young player but I haven’t liked what I’ve seen so far," he added on the 19-year-old. "Did you see the Southampton game?
"Look, he’s a young player and I would keep him in the squad."
United continue to struggle in the Premier League this season as their 2-0 defeat to Palace has left them 13th in the table.
However, Ruben Amorim's side are through to the FA Cup fifth round and will compete in the last 16 of the Europa League.
