‘I’m so small’ – David Beckham pokes fun at himself as Shaq, Tom Brady and Lionel Messi join birthday celebration

David Beckham kicked off his 50th birthday celebrations with a star-studded black-tie party in Miami.

The soiree was attended by the who’s who of sport and entertainment with the former Manchester United star’s family also in attendance with the notable exception of son Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz.

Beckham, whose birthday isn’t until May 2, welcomed stars such as Lionel Messi, Tom Brady and Shaquille O’Neal to the swanky party in his favourite city.

The Inter Miami co-owner and wife Victoria wore beaming smiles throughout the evening as their superstar line up of guests partied into the night.

Beckham shared snippets of the swanky evening with his 87.9million Instagram followers.

First up was a shot with Inter Miami quartet of Messi, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez in what is likely to become an iconic image in years to come.

Not one to leave out the players’ partners, Beckham cosied up for another picture with Suarez and Messi this time accompanied by Victoria, Messi’s wife Antonela Roccuzzo, and Suarez’s wife Sofia Balbi.

Next came a shot of Beckham between the giant frames of US Sports legends Shaq and Brady to which the former England skipper joked: “I’m so small.”

He reserved the post poignant photo for last with a group picture of his family including sons Romeo and Cruz alongside their partners and daughter Harper.

Other notable names included in the star’s photo dump were Grammy winning singer Marc Anthony and Hollywood stars Justin Theroux and Fisher Stevens. 

And with a little over a month until the big day, Beckham's celebrations are unlikely to die down anytime soon and if it’s anything like wife Victoria’s 50th party then there is certainly more to come.

Victoria was given a luxurious £250,000 bash in London with family and friends in attendance alongside a Spice Girls reunion. 

There could be further joy for Beckham over the coming months if Inter Miami take the giant step towards MLS glory this season.

The Florida-based franchise enjoyed a superb regular season campaign last year by topping the standings and claiming the Supporters Shield which is handed out to the team with the best regular season record.

But their hopes of landing a first MLS Cup were dashed at the first time of trying after falling foul of a huge upset to Atlanta United who ended the season 34 point adrift of Messi and co.

It appears that Inter Miami have no plans to dwell on past failures having made a blistering start to the new season.

With four wins and a draw from their opening five fixtures, Inter Miami already top the Eastern Conference in what is likely to be Messi’s final season at the club.

And what better way for the Argentine to bow out than to hand birthday boy Beckham his first MLS title, just five years after entering the league.
