Rory Jennings has labelled Robert Sanchez's error 'unacceptable' after he gifted Erling Haaland Manchester City's second goal of the match.

Chelsea lost the game 3-1 and Jennings did not hold back with his harsh review of the game which saw City leapfrog the Blues into fourth.

No player has made more errors leading to goals than Sanchez's five so far this season.

"Man City have just battered Chelsea 3-1 and to be frank, I'm losing patience" Jennings said on talkSPORT.

"Enzo Maresca persists with picking Robert Sanchez and it makes no sense. Sanchez is undoubtedly the worst goalkeeper in the Premier League.

"Robert Sanchez is undoubtedly costing Chelsea time and time again, Robert Sanchez is going to be the reason why Chelsea will not qualify for the Champions League next season.

"Something is terrifying about this because I truly believe that next season Cole Palmer will be playing in the Champions League. He didn't play in it last year and he's not been playing in the Conference League.

"There is no way that a player of Cole Palmer's quality goes three years without playing in the Champions League.

"So if [Chelsea] aren't going to make it, what does that mean for our future ambition and what does that mean for Cole Palmer.

"It has been a terrible performance and Enzo Maresca needs to start taking some accountability and responsibility because he is getting it wrong. Chelsea are now sixth in the Premier League table.

"One month ago, we went to Goodison Park where a win would have taken us top of the league. That was on the 22 December, on the 5 January, we are currently sixth in the league and we are moving in one direction and that is down. It is baffling what is going on.

Jennings continued to label the match at the Etihad as a 'disaster for Chelsea'. He attributed the capitulation after going 1-0 up three minutes into play through Noni Madueke to Sanchez in goal.

"Howler after howler. I have no idea why Maresca is making justification for playing him.

"He is a total calamity. I don't think he should ever play for the club again. Selecting him could be Enzo Maresca's biggest downfall.

"I would rather play an outfield player in goal than I would Robert Sanchez" Jennings said.

"The sporting directors and the way the club is being run is so damaging for the future of the club.

"How can we have spent over £1billion and our goalkeeper is the worst in the Premier League

It comes not only after the Man City game, but also as Sanchez has now reached a league-high of five errors leading to goals.

Speaking after the defeat, Maresca said: "We trust Robert for sure but in the same moment he is aware that he is making mistakes.

"We continue to trust Robert but we have an entire week, see the reaction and decide for the next games".

Callers also agreed, calling it a 'total abomination', with Jennings also criticising the running of the club, particularly after the treatment of Trevor Chalobah.

Chalobah - an academy Chelsea player - has spent four seasons out on loan from the west London side, but was recently recalled from a stint at Crystal Palace due to Chelsea's need for defensive reinforcements.

They also referenced selling former captain Conor Gallagher, a homegrown star, for Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid.

The decision baffled Blues fans as Felix has made limited appearances for the side - including just three Premier League starts, playing second-fiddle to Cole Palmer in the No.10 position.

Felix signed on a seven-year contract with the Blues after Gallagher moved in the other direction for £35m to the Spanish capital.
