Rayan Cherki could have changed air this winter. The young talent of Olympique Lyonnais seemed ready to take a course in his career, but his training club refused to let him go. Despite his desire elsewhere and a concrete offer, OL closed the door, preferring to bet on it for the second half of the season.

But this story is far from over. According to information from Sport Bild, Borussia Dortmund, who had already positioned himself twice on Cherki, intends to return to the charge during the next summer transfer window.

Dortmund and Cherki: Never two without three?

The BVB closely follows the Lyon playmaker for several months. Already last August, German leaders had studied the possibility of recruiting it, before abandoning the idea, cooled by its irregularity and its unpredictable character. Despite these doubts, Dortmund returned to the charge in January, subjecting a new offer to OL. But again, the Rhone club refused to give in its player.

Cherki continues with Lyon.

However, Borussia has not abandoned. Aware of Cherki's raw talent, the German club sees in him an offensive reinforcement ideal to energize his attack next season. Its technical profile and its ability to make differences in one counter one perfectly corresponds to the expectations of the BVB, which could lose several offensive elements this summer.

A next attempt for this summer

Besides Cherki, Borussia Dortmund experienced a frustrating winter transfer window. The club has strengthened its defense with the Swedish side Daniel Svensson (22), and obtained the loan from Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea to build his midfield. But the failure of the Cherki file leaves a bitter taste.

In the direction of departures, Donyell Malen was sold to Aston Villa for 25 million euros, plus five million bonuses. A departure that partly explains the renewed interest in Cherki, the BVB seeking to compensate for this loss with a creative player and capable of boosting his attacking sector.

Summer promises to be agitated on the side of the Iduna Park signal, and Cherki could well be at the heart of a new soap opera. Dortmund has already failed twice in this case, but as the saying says: two never without three …
