A former French international has indicated that it is time to remove the captain’s armband from Kylian Mbappé.
Kylian Mbappé has been captain of the France team since December 2022 and the retirement of Hugo Lloris. However, he may not retain this privilege for very long. Coach Didier Deschamps is seriously considering the idea of appointing another leader to his team.
Mbappé stripped of the armband? It’s an outcome that wouldn’t shock Jérôme Rothen. The former French international even thinks that it would be the best solution for everyone.
“I think that with everything that has happened in recent months, where you see someone who is having difficulty managing a lot of things both in his personal and professional life and since we have to leave him alone , the armband must be removed. It forces him to do things that don’t suit him. »
“Mbappé must be calmer”
Rothen went on to indicate that the captaincy is a heavy burden for Mbappé: “I think it totally takes away from his performance on the field. This is why his performances since the World Cup have been very poor. To restore tranquility, you have all the cards in hand Didier. This is exactly what needs to be done. In addition, there are several players who have leadership in them.”
Finally, he concluded by sending a request to his former coach in Monaco: “If he gives him the armband, there will be lots of discussions and he won’t get his hands back on the group. The questioning must happen now and Deschamps is at the basis of this questioning.”
