The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State, Joseph Eribo, has presented cheques worth over N88.6 million to the families of 54 deceased officers in the state.
This was contained in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, on Tuesday.
Eribo, who used the occasion to condole with the families of the fallen officers, appreciated the IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun for ensuring prompt payment of the funds, which he noted are part of the IGP’s Family Welfare Scheme, Group Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident Insurance Scheme.
He urged the beneficiaries who are next of kin of deceased officers to use the funds judiciously.
The statement said, “The cheques to deceased family members were facilitated by the IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who has made the welfare of police officers and their families a top priority.
“I, therefore, called on beneficiaries who are next of kin to the deceased officers to ensure that they make optimal use of the funds provided to them to help them stand on their feet and also cater for their respective families.
“The force in her entirety condoles with the family of the fallen heroes.
“The cheques issued to the next of kin by the CP on behalf of the IGP are parts of the IGP’s Family Welfare Scheme, Group Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident Insurance Scheme.”
The beneficiaries expressed their appreciation to the police force, promising to make good use of the funds and prayed to God to bless the IGP, the CP and the Nigerian Police Force.
