The newly appointed Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, in the Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Mrs Eduma Essien, has called on the staff and management of the institution to put aside all the bickering and acrimony, saying it is time for the institution to move forward.
Speaking after a brief handover ceremony in her office at the main campus of the institution on Friday, Essien said such habits will not take the institution anywhere.
There has been a lot of acrimony and bickering among the management and staff in the process leading to her appointment as the substantive rector of the 14-year-old institution.
Essien, the first female Rector of the institution, called for a total reorientation of the mind, as she was not ready to inherit all the bickerings and acrimony.
“I believe with your dedication and prayers, we are going to scale heights, climb walls, I say walls because there are obstacles. I want to say let us put aside all bickerings, the bring-you-down syndrome, and the fighting, it takes us nowhere and we can’t continue to live like that.
“So, if you are always thinking of evil about your fellow staff or the institution, please give yourself a reorientation. This administration is going to be an inclusive one. I will not inherit your bitterness because I don’t have the heart to store it, my heart is a heart of love”, she said.
She reminded them that the system is guided by rules and regulations, and those rules and regulations must be applied in the day-to-day administration of the polytechnic.
She added, “I also want to let you know that the system is guided by rules and regulations and we are going to ensure that these rules and regulations are applied in our day-to-day dealings and activities. No one will be punished unjustly and you will not be denied what is your right”.
The rector appreciated the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, for the support to the institution so far, and called on the staff to change to encourage him to do more.
Earlier in his address, the Acting Rector, Dr Maurice Udom, appreciated the staff and management for the support given to him, noting that it was their support that enabled him to succeed within the short time he acted as the rector.
He, therefore, called on them to extend the same cooperation and support the new rector for her to succeed in office.
The host community Ukana had earlier organised a reception ceremony for the rector, where they expressed their happiness over her appointment.
Speaking at the brief ceremony, the community leader and former chairman, Essien Udim Council, Vincent Udofia, described the appointment as God-sent
“When we heard that you are coming in today, we were so excited. We know quite well that your coming is God-sent, it’s going to be a blessing to this community, we are so sure that a lot of things will change” Udofia said. A’Ibom Federal Poly rector seeks end to staff, management rift
