A 17-year-old young man from the “FC Metz Performance” program was given a suspended prison sentence this Thursday for beating an opposing player to death during a football tournament.
The verdict is in. Author of a terrible attack on May 28 during a football tournament in Frankfurt, a 17-year-old player, playing for FC Metz Performance – a team integrated into the Ligue 1 club and which provides the opportunity “for young footballers or educators from all over the world to be able to access a high-level training structure” – was sentenced this Thursday by German courts to two years in prison, suspended.
The 17-year-old Moroccan had beaten to death a 15-year-old player, Paul, who was wearing the colors of JFC Berlin after a match. The Berliner died a few days later “from his serious brain injuries”according to the police, after having been kept alive artificially for a while so that he could donate his organs.
“He is now free and can go to the country he wants”
The attacker has already spent nine months in pre-trial detention in a juvenile facility in Germany. “He is now free and can go to any country he wants. But he must inform the Frankfurt court every month of what he is doing. He admitted the facts and said he regretted them,” court spokesperson Daniel Trosch explained to AFP.
For its part, FC Metz said “deeply shocked by this tragedy”reports RMC Sport.
