Manchester United have been linked with Copenhagen starlet Roony Bardghji for some time now, and he’s already got one ex-Red’s co-sign.

The Old Trafford faithful will be all too familiar with the 18-year-old’s talents after he provided a devastating Champions League dagger when the two sides met in a group-stage clash at Parken Stadium last November; United took an early 2-0 lead before a seven-goal thriller culminated in Bardghji scoring an 87th-minute winner in his off-the-bench cameo.

Erik ten Hag’s men exited the competition after finishing rock-bottom of Group A, while Copenhagen booked their spot in the last-16 and are currently hosting Manchester City in the first leg of their tie.

Earlier this month, the Express claimed that the Red Devils were among a host of clubs targeting Bardghji ahead of a potential summer pursuit, along with Premier League rivals Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa.

Ferdinand reckons Bardghji has a high ceiling

Ferdinand didn’t weigh in on his former club’s rumoured interest, but he did heap praise on the Swedish starlet during TNT Sports’ match coverage this evening.

“He’s got a name already, he seems accustomed to that,” the six-time Premier League winner began. “He doesn’t seem fazed at all. Whenever I’ve seen him, he comes on, he looks like he should be there. He wants to be there; he’s got the ability. I think he’s going to be a name we’re going to hear more about.

“This is the type of night where he will want to announce himself even further than he has already.”

Ferdinand then recalled Bardghji’s super-sub heroics against United, adding: “There were so many things around that game that will make it an even bigger game for him. Yes, his name, but also playing against Manchester United, in this part of the world United have huge support, so he would have grown up knowing about Manchester United.

“It’s big pressure, 18 years old to come in and do that and to be the top goalscorer, says a lot about not just the ability but the mental capacity this young man has.”
