EXCLUSIVE: Following the success of last year’s Sundance breakout Talk To Me, A24, Square Peg and Causeway Films are reuniting to team up with debut filmmaker Masha Ko on an adaptation of her horror short The Looming which premiered at Sundance this year. Ko will write/direct the adaptation with A24 producing alongside Square Peg’s Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen and Tyler Campellone and Causeway Films’ Samantha Jennings and Kristina Ceyton.

A24 will finance and handle worldwide releasing.

Following the world premiere of The Looming at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, Ko became one of the more sought after directors among the agencies with almost everyone rep wanting a meeting. Ko would ultimately sign with Range Media Partners then WME and quickly began working on what her next project would be with a feature version of the looming being an obvious choice.

Similar to when Talk To Me hit the market during the 2023 festival, A24 saw this as a perfect opportunity to reunite with Square Peg and Causeway to go after the package and ultimately landing the rights.

As a filmmaker, Ko’s primary goal is to highlight the stories of individuals who are often overlooked by society and whose lives are rarely celebrated through artistic forms. Through her films, she aspires to disclose the magnificence hidden within individuals, regardless of the challenges or biases that may have concealed it. Her work often deals with deconstruction of Western perspectives related to sexuality, PTSD, and mortality.

Ko is represented by WME and Range and Aster is also repped by WME.
