Aamir Khan made the headlines a couple of days ago when a video of him promoting a political party went viral on social media. The actor’s team immediately released a statement stating that the video was fake and the actor had never endorsed any political party. While they filed an FIR with the Cyber Crime Cell of the Mumbai Police, here’s a new update.

As per reports, the Mumbai Police has filed an FIR against an unidentified individual for the fake video. Read on to know the details.

Mumbai Police files an FIR

As per a recent NewsX report, the Mumbai Police has registered an FIR against an unidentified individual after a deepfake video of Aamir Khan promoting a political party went viral. According to the report, the FIR has been registered at Khar Police Station by the actor’s office.

The unidentified individual is being charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). These includes section 419 (impersonation), 420 (cheating) and the Information Technology Act.

The nearly 30-second-long video appears to have been altered using artificial intelligence (AI) to show Aamir Khan warning his fans against the ‘jumlas’. In the video, the ‘PK’ actor can be heard saying that every citizen in India is a ‘lakhpati’. The end frame of the video features the party symbol of the Congress part. It also features the text ‘Vote For Nyay, Vote For Congress’ as the same audio plays in the background.

Aamir Khan’s statement

Following the deepfake video going viral on social media, Aamir’s official spokesperson released a statement. It read, “We are alarmed by the recent viral video alleging that Aamir Khan is promoting a particular political party. He would like to clarify that this is a fake video and totally untrue. He has reported the matter to various authorities related to this issue, including filing an FIR with the Cyber Crime Cell of the Mumbai Police.”

They further said, “We want to clarify that Mr Aamir Khan has never endorsed any political party throughout his 35-year career. He has dedicated his efforts to raising public awareness through Election Commission public awareness campaigns for many past elections. Mr Khan would like to urge all Indians to come out and vote and be an active part of our electoral process.”

On the professional front, Aamir Khan will soon star in the sequel of Taare Zameen Par. The actor annoucned the title of the film – Sitaare Zameen Par on his birthday. He will also star in Andaz Apna Apna 2. Talking about it, he said, “Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi is working on the script of ‘Andaz Apna Apna 2’.”
