Abia State government, in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency, Nigeria Digital Identification Development Project, and the National Assembly, has engaged stakeholders on the National Digital Economy and e-governance bill.

The bill is aimed at ensuring efficient governance and less corrupt practices in government processes in the state.

The stakeholders’ engagement is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to ensure that the 36 states of the federation make inputs on the bill.

Explaining the essence of the bill, the Technical Lead of the partnering legal agency of the stakeholders’ engagement, Jeffery Nwalima, said the bill was all about economic transformation to establish a regulatory foundation to encourage digital commerce, cross-border trade, and innovation.

Speaking at the engagement, the Abia State Commissioner for Digital Economy, Science and Development, David Kalu, described the bill as a critical force in driving economic growth and empowering every citizen in every sector of the economy.

The bill, if passed into law, is expected to improve Nigeria’s digital space, improve her economy and make for efficient transactions.
