The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has pledged to complete the ongoing rehabilitation of roads in Mowe and Magboro communities in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state.
The promise follows concerns raised by some residents of Adesan-Olu Community in the Mowe, who appealed to the governor to complete the repair of the 3.5-kilometre road in their area.
The governor recently approved the rehabilitation of the road, which the community said was formerly in bad condition for years.
In an open letter to the governor, obtained by PUNCH Online on Sunday, the community, while recognising the governor’s commitment to infrastructural development, commended his leadership for prioritising projects that enhance the quality of lives in the state.
They, however, complained of what they described as a slow pace of the construction work, which they noted had made the road worse than it was given the rainy season.
In the letter titled, ‘Appreciation letter from the entire Adesan-Olu Community of Mowe, Ogun State,’ the residents said, “We the above-mentioned community write to express our heartfelt appreciation for your tireless efforts in serving our state.
“Your leadership has been instrumental in the ongoing construction of our 3.5km dilapidated road, which you have started with the laying of asphalt. This specific initiative has positively impacted the community.
“Sir, we need to bring to your attention that the rainy season has started in earnest, and the speed at which the contractor started the project has nose-dived to a snail speed, and we have started experiencing muddy roads for the little time the rain has started.”
The letter was jointly signed by the Community Development Committee Grand Patron in Obafemi Owode, Alhaji Bamidele Nasiru, and Adesan-Olu community leaders, Alhaji Morenigbade Moshood and Gafar Adeyemi.
Reacting, the Special Adviser to the governor on Communication and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, urged the residents to be patient, assuring them that the government would complete the projects.
“We should thank God. And when the government does something, we should be able to commend the government. They should know that the road will be completed.
“The 2024 budget is not yet exhausted. There are so many factors that make contractors (not be on site). You know, when you do a job to a particular level, you need a certificate for you to be remobilised. It also requires some processes. People will come and verify to know that you’ve done the actual thing. They cannot give them all the money at a go. So they should relax.”
He explained that since the government has announced the commencement of the project, there is no cause for alarm, noting that the rehabilitation of Magboro Road is also still in top gear.
