Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Tuesday, said his administration is committed to pursuing fiscal responsibility, through public financial management reforms.
This, he said, is to build strong institutions that will promote accountability and transparency.
Abiodun made the commitment in Abeokuta during the Treasury Board Meeting on Year 2025-2027 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and the 2025 budget.
The governor stated that the framework was not only a testament to financial prudence but also a roadmap for sustainable infrastructural development, job creation, and poverty reduction in the state.
Abiodun, represented by the Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, said “This gathering stands as a significant evidence to the present administration’s commitment to inclusivity and adherence to best practices in preparing the state budget document.
“Though the global economy faces persistent inflation, supply chain disruptions and geopolitical tensions, our government has made substantial growth in key sectors, while the resilience of the domestic economy also provides a robust foundation for the even development being witnessed in the state.
“Our state’s economy is interlinked with national and global economic trends. As we review the 2025 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), we emphasise our government’s commitment to fiscal discipline, focusing on investment priorities that will drive sustainable growth and long-term prosperity.”
He stressed the pivotal role of road infrastructure in economic growth, adding that it helped connect businesses to markets and citizens to opportunities, such as the Kajola Inland Dry Port project flagged off last month.
Abiodun said the reconstruction of the Abeokuta-Ota federal highway was essential for the connectivity and growth of the state economy.
He added that his government had made huge investments in technology, patrol vehicles, and other essential equipment, with increased funding to the security forces, to foster public trust by creating a secure environment for every resident in the state.
Speaking on the importance of enhancing the internally generated revenue to fund projects and budget, Abiodun noted the need to unlock the full potential of the state’s economy for growth, towards reducing dependence on federal allocation.
He asked stakeholders to unite and continue to support the government in achieving a more prosperous state.
The Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr Olaolu Olabimtan, said the administration focused on impactful sustainable initiatives that would bring about economic growth and development in the state.
Olabimtan said no sector would be left at the expense of others in the delivery of good governance, as he urged all stakeholders to work together in accomplishing principles of transparency and accountability.
The commissioner said the budget would reflect alignment with the state’s sustainable growth and development plans, noting that the involvement of the 20 local government areas in the process was to leverage their strength to move the state forward.
