Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo

A human rights activist and Convener of the Recover Nigeria Project, Mr Osita Obi, has commended the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for taking action on security through the unveiling of the state’s newly-created security outfit, “Operation Udo-ga-chi”.

Obi also called on the opposition groups, including governorship aspirants to channel their energy and money into the Anambra State security fund.

He stated this during a media parley in Awka, on Tuesday, while calling on the citizens of the state to allow the governor tackkle insecurity and continue his efforts in transforming the state.

He urged critics in the state to criticise the governor with decency instead of using vulgar language.

He said, “I am talking about insecurity because it has affected me personally. I was attacked by cultists and was taken to the hospital. That is why I can talk about insecurity.

“The governor should be commended for the security outfit recently unveiled. Some people say it’s belated, but the most important thing is that action has been taken. Security is a complex task, you don’t know the tactics to apply for you to start getting results.

“Modern security fight has gone beyond carrying guns and vehicles, it is about intelligence gathering and using technology. It revolves around surveillance. That is why I was happy when the governor said he is fighting insecurity with technology.”

He said after visiting several of Soludo’s projects in the state, he concluded that he must support him for him to continue his work in the state.

He stated that the governor is doing well, having initiated projects in Awka and other areas of the state, hitherto abandoned by past governments.

“I am commending the governor, when the state government was saying they are doing this and that. I took some journalists on a project tour around the state and I saw the marvelous work the governor is doing and I came to the conclusion that Soludo is doing wonderfully well.

“My mother was raised at the Okpoko community and I knew how Okpoko was a total slum when Okpoko became an issue, I took a project tour around Okpoko and I marvelled at the level of development that I saw there. Let’s give Soludo a chance to move Anambra forward.

“If a man is doing well, we should support him for the wonderful work he is doing. I am asking that people give him time to complete what he is doing today. Let no one come and distort the good work he is doing in the state,” he added.
