Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has taken to social media to recall the challenges she endured before becoming a mother.
The new mother who welcomed her son Oluwafirewamiri Abdulrasheed in November 2024 via a lengthy Instagram page on New Year’s eve, shared her testimony and how God gave her triumphs over a prolonged challenge.
Amusa also in the post revealed the numerous challenges she faced in her quest for motherhood, including three miscarriages and a diagnosis of uterine myomatosis in 2015, which threatened her ability to conceive.
She wrote: “For as long as I can remember, I knew I wanted to be a complete, ideal woman — a wife and a mother.
“Having had three miscarriages, in 2015, I was diagnosed with uterine myomatosis, and some doctors recommended removing my womb due to the complications and discomfort I experienced every month during my menstrual cycle.”
She revealed that she chose to fight by undergoing many treatments to manage growth of tumors, despite doctors suggesting the removal of her womb.
“I decided to fight and reject that option. I was on medications, injections, and treatments to stop the growth of tumours until my uncle’s wife advised I come to the UK for treatment,” she noted.
“On the 14th of February 2015, I had the surgery to remove the tumour via TCRE laparoscopy dye ovarian drilling procedure, as I was really afraid of being open.”
According to her, she and her then-partner in 2016 tried to conceive but discovered that one of her fallopian tubes was damaged, making natural conception nearly impossible.
She added that due to her struggle with infertility, her relationship ended when her partner became involved with another woman. “Men as men, my then-partner was involved with another woman, unknown to me, which produced a baby boy. After so many ups and downs, back and forth, that’s how the whole thing ended,” she said.
Amusa further narrated how her struggles continued, including failed IVF attempts in 2019 and the emotional distress caused by her partner’s impatience.
“My supposed husband was really impatient with me. He was over 40 years old and was insisting on having a child that year,” she said.
She said that after suggesting he get someone else pregnant while she waited for her miracle baby, which she objected to, “He got someone else pregnant months later, and that produced a baby girl.”
The actress recalled the profound toll infertility took on her mental and emotional well-being, which led her to isolate herself, withdrawing from family, friends, and her career.
Despite always appearing outwardly happy, Amusa revealed she spent many years battling depression in silence. “There’s this misconception that if someone is smiling, they’re okay. If someone has not spoken about it, they must be okay. But the reality is… it’s often hard to be okay when you’re faced with the challenges of waiting/infertility,” she shared.
She added that despite the emotional toll of constant self-doubt, name-calling, and fear of the unknown that came with waiting for a miracle, she never lost faith that sooner or later “God would hear my innermost hidden prayers and fulfil my desires.”
Amusa went on to recall how, following her mother’s advice in 2021, she sought a change of environment and relocated to either the United States or the United Kingdom for a fresh start.
She added that a pivotal moment came when she returned for a family gathering in December 2023, where she quietly prayed not to spend another holiday season alone.
“I travelled and came back with a cleared mind, but again, in December 2023, when we had our yearly Christmas family gathering with my siblings, my cousins, and their kids, I remembered sitting in a corner while my siblings were dancing and merrily singing. I was silently praying to God not to celebrate December 2024 alone. I professed to celebrate December 2024 as a completely fulfilled woman.”
The actress explained how the emotional burden of the moment led her to a breakdown and also spurred her to pray for a breakthrough, which was answered in 2024.
She added, “On December 31st, 2023, at the crossover night, my main prayer point was still for God to rewrite my story, to cause the world to call me by a new name, and I am grateful for answered prayers because God finally FIREWAMIRI. I thank Him for the grace and privilege of being called a new name—Mummy Olufire.”
In her Instagram post, Amusa encouraged others struggling with similar challenges to remain hopeful, saying that they are not alone in their struggles and that their pain and feelings are valid.
She said she offered her testimony as a point of contact for anyone facing difficulties, expressing confidence that God’s kindness and mercy would bring them their own miracle.
