Adam Cole said not getting to face Bryan Danielson in AEW was a bummer, but he expressed his hope that the match could still happen.

Danielson effectively retired from full-time competition after his loss at AEW WrestleDream. Though he and Cole both debuted in AEW at AEW All Out 2021, they never faced each other during their time in the company.

Speaking with James Stewart on Stick to Wrestling, Adam Coke was asked whether he was disappointed he didn’t get to have the match in AEW.

“Yes, yes. No doubt. Again, I respect Bryan Danielson so much, like everybody does. Bryan is so universally loved, respected, and admired. Not just by fans, but literally by every wrestler he ever met. Bryan is without question one of the greatest of all time to ever do this. I look back at the one match that we had on SmackDown, and I think back so fondly of that night and that moment.

“That was the first time we ever stepped into the ring together, and it was a dream come true for me. It was an honor to step into the ring with Bryan Danielson. So I got so excited at the idea because we both debuted the same night here in AEW. I thought, oh my god, we’re gonna get the chance to do it again in AEW, in front of the AEW fans, I can’t wait.”

Adam Cole: Never Say Never

Cole went on to note that, for now, it seemed like the match would not happen, and that was a bummer. However, he said that Danielson’s health was the most important thing. He also expressed his hope that the match could happen someday.

“So at least now, for the time being, it seems like that probably won’t happen, so of course, that’s a bummer for me,” Adam Cole said. “But Bryan’s health and Bryan’s safety and Bryan’s legacy is the most important thing. So I’m glad that Bryan is able to rest and heal. Again, Bryan’s one of the greatest to ever do, and selfishly I do wish I could have stepped into the ring with him again. But who knows? Never say never. Maybe someday.”

WrestleZone will have coverage of AEW Dynamite as it airs on Wednesday.
