Adam Sandler is teaming up with his Uncut Gems director Benny Safdie on a new comedy special for Netflix.
The project is the second comedy special from Sandler and the streamer following 2018’s 100% Fresh, directed by Steven Brill with contributions from Paul Thomas Anderson, the latter of which directed Sandler in Punch-Drunk Love.
Sandler’s longtime deal with Netflix has also included multiple films: Leo, You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah, Hustle, Murder Mystery, Murder Mystery 2, Hubie Halloween, Sandy Wexler, The Week Of, The Do-Over and The Ridiculous 6. Additionally, his production banner Happy Madison has produced Father of the Year, The Wrong Missy and The Out-laws.
Sandler’s career began with roles in the TV show The Cosby Show and a year later with his film debut in Going Overboard, before hitting the stand-up comedy circuit where he was discovered by Dennis Miller. Miller recommended Sandler to Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels, who would go on to become the comedian’s boss after Sandler took on jobs on the long-running NBC sketch series including writer and featured performer.
Following his firing from the show, his film career took off. To date, his features have grossed over $3 billion with titles such as Grown Ups, You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, Billy Madison, Big Daddy and The Waterboy.
Up next, the multi-hyphenate is releasing his Netflix film Spaceman, which will world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival and stream on March 1.
