The former lawmaker representing the Adamawa North Senatorial District, Elisha Abbo, has issued a 72-hour ultimatum demanding a public retraction and apology over his alleged involvement involving sex tapes.

The ultimatum follows the circulation of videos and an interview that accused the senator of sexual exploitation, distribution of intimate videos, revenge pornography and blackmail.

In a letter issued by Abbo’s legal representative, Odiyowvi Osusu, the former lawmaker claimed that the defamatory statements have caused significant damage to his personal and professional reputation, as well as misleading the public.

He noted that the video in question was shared on the platform “Naija Police: U” on September 4, 2024, while the interview was aired by TrustTV News on YouTube the following day.

He also requested that the retraction be circulated on the same platforms where the videos and interview were originally posted.

Failure to meet the deadline, the letter warns, will result in legal action seeking damages for libel, an injunction to prevent further publications, and a court-ordered retraction and public apology.

The letter read in part, “We have been instructed by our client to make a demand, and we hereby formally request that within 72 hours of receiving this letter, you publish or air an unequivocal public retraction and apology on national TV and in three national newspapers. The terms of this retraction must be approved by our firm, and we expect you to revert to us within 24 hours of receipt of this letter.

“You shall also be expected to circulate the retraction and apology on the same platforms wherein your interviews were circulated. Save and except we receive a satisfactory reply from you within the timelines as stipulated above, our instructions are to commence legal proceedings against you, without further recourse to you, for the following claims.”

Abbo noted that his legal team is prepared to initiate legal proceedings if their demands are not met within the specified timeframe.

He had denied the allegation, asking, “How can you identify a person without seeing his face, his body, only parts of his legs and you said it is Senator Abbo?“
