Bright Osayi-Samuel has reiterated the importance of the Super Eagles converting scoring opportunities, as they head into the knockout round of the AFCON 2023.

The Eagles will take on rivals Indomitable Lions of Cameroon on Saturday in the round of 16.

Jose Peseiro’s men finished second in Group A behind Equatorial Guinea.

However, the Eagles’ attacking third has come under scrutiny due to their profligacy in front of goal.

The team has scored three goals with one coming open play.

Speaking ahead of the clash with Cameroon, Osayi-Samuel stated that creating scoring chances is not an issue for the Eagles but putting them away is where the problem is.

“In general I think we played well we had a clean sheet so it’s positive in terms of the defence,” the Fenerbahce star said on NFF TV.

“Collectively we had many chances and we know we will get chances in every game with the quality that we have and I think it’s about converting those chances.

Overall, the game (against Guinea-Bissau) was good, it’s a learning curve now to see what we can improve to do better in our next game against Cameroon.“

On the clash with Cameroon, Osayi-Samuel said:“It’s knockout and there’s no three points it’s either you win and you are through and if you lose you are out and that comes with pressure.

“But if you look at our group we have players with vast experience and we have players who strive in this situation. If you look around the group everyone is confident and looking forward to the game.”

He added: “Cameroon are a very strong team, they’ve got good players but if we focus on ourselves and look at what we can do and how we can hurt them, then I think we have a very good chance of winning the game.“
