Former Nigerian international, Waidi Akanni believes the Super Eagles are gradually progressing to the promise land after defeating the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the round of 16 at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The first goal came in the 37th minute when Nigeria’s talismanic striker Osimhen set up Lookman for a close-range shot.

Osimhen’s impact was undeniable as the Napoli striker yet again set up Lookman to bring comfort to the Super Eagles with a second goal that effectively brushed off Cameroon.

Reacting after the game, Akanni, who was a guest in Afrosports AFCON coverage, stated that the Super Eagles have been solid at the back and the team is progressing to the promise land.

“It was a nice performance, an excellent performance from the Super Eagles. If you look at it, Nigeria is progressing to the

promise land.

“I think the coach is gradually getting his pattern of play and like you rightly see it in the game, the Super Eagles got their tactics right and didn’t allow Cameroon to play their football.

“Osimhen showed great pressing and won the ball that allowed him to set up the opening goal for Lookman. Osimhen does what you see in Barcelona and Man United, Once he loses the ball, you see him fight back to support the team.”
