Bright Osayi-Samuel has said the Super Eagles always do better when they play against big teams.
The right-back said this while reacting to the Eagles’ disappointing 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea in their first Group A game on Sunday.
Iban Edu gave Equatorial Guinea a shock lead before Osimhen equalised just two minutes later.
The Eagles had numerous chances to go on and win the game but we’re wasteful in front of goal.
Osayi-Samuel, who came on in the second half, expressed confidence that the team will do better when they face hosts Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday.
The Fenerbahce star explained that Egypt lost their opening game at the 2021 edition but went all the way to the final.
“Honestly of course we wanted to win, it’s a bit disappointing because a big nation like us every game we are expected to win,” he said in a video posted on Brila FM X.
“If you look at Egypt, how they lost their first game and got to the final last AFCON. So for me I think of course we want to win but we shouldn’t put our heads down too much.
“We have a game in the next four days and I believe in everyone in this team and I think next game will be a reaction.
“I believe that with the squad that we have the game against Ivory Coast we will do our best, when we play against those big teams that’s when we do better we know what it takes and everyone is confident.“
Meanwhile, Alhassan Yusuf has allayed fears following concerns that he has suffered a serious injury.
The midfielder was stretchered off after suffering a thigh injury and was replaced by Joe Aribo on 69 minutes.
However, the Royal Antwerp midfielder said he suffered a cramp that it is nothing serious.
