Fidelis Ilechukwu, has said Super Eagles players are ready to take on Rwanda on matchday 2 of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers.

The Eagles got their Group D AFCON qualifying campaign off to a perfect start with a 3-0 win against Benin Republic on Saturday in Uyo.

Victor Osimhen marked his return to the team with a goal while Ademola Lookman bagged a brace.

The Eagles will now face Rwanda on matchday 2 on Tuesday, September 10.

Reflecting on the win, Ilechukwu expressed delight that despite the short time, the team still managed to secure the three points.

“I’m so happy, we are happy, Nigerians are happy. We are happy because we won with little time so to me in the happiest man on earth,” Ilechukwu said in a video posted on the X handle of Official54fx.

“We will do our best, to me the boys are ready we have prepared very well. It’s going to be a very tight game but we will do our best. We have players like Osimhen and co so everybody is ready. We saw what Moses did, saw Ndidi in the middle and our bench is solid.”

The Rangers head coach praised interim handler Austin Eguavoen for leading the Eagles to victory.

“Austin Eguavoen is a coach who carry everybody along, he is a coach who we love, his tactical approach, his technical approach and to me he is the best thing to happen to Nigeria now especially in this short period of time and together with our little support.“
