Benin Republic head coach Gernot Rohr has defended the invitation of Remo Stars goalkeeper Serge Obassa for the team’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games against Nigeria and Libya.
Obassa is among the 25 players invited by Rohr for the two games.
The German said Obassa’s deep knowledge of Nigeria football would be vital for his side.

“Obassa knows Nigerian football very well since he plays for Remo Stars, which is one of the best clubs in Nigeria at the moment,” he told Mega Sports.
“So his experience and know-how can also be useful to us, whether in training or possibly in matches.”
The Cheetahs of Benin Republic will host the Super Eagles at the Felix Houphet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan on Thursday.
They need a win from the game to boost their chances of qualifying for Morocco 2025.
