Super Eagles assistant coach Daniel Ogunmodede has said the Group D AFCON 2025 qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda will be approached like Cup finals.
The Eagles are on the verge of securing qualification to next year’s AFCON in Morocco.
A point from the team’s next two games should be enough to seal qualification for the tournament.
After four games, the Eagles seat top of the group on 10 points, recording three wins and a draw.
“Every match we want to approach it like a Cup final, we want to win all matches,” Ogunmodede said in an interview on NFF TV. “I’m not aware we needed just one point to qualify so we just want to win regardless of the number of points left to qualify.
“First, the priority is for us to qualify, and secondly, according to the head coach, to win all games as they come and maximum of three points is what is important to us.”
He spoke about the 23-man squad unveiled by head coach Austin Eguavoen.
“The head coach has come up with a list, discussed with us as his back-room staff and I think they are competent and capable to represent the country.
“They are all familiar faces apart from Gabriel Osho who is new in the setup now because he had an injury and had to undergo surgery.
“Sadiq had been in the team for a while and was also out due to injury now he’s back and the coach felt we needed a left foot centre back and presently in the league, we have Victor Collins that has proven his worth.
“This is to show that the head coach is doing a massive job, he has gone around the country to watch the league and in Collins he has the believe, having watched him two, three times in the league and possibly the strongest left foot player we have in the Nigerian Premier League.”
