Nigerian music icon, Wizkid, has sparked another round of controversy with a series of fiery social media posts, where he appears to have taken shots at fellow superstar Davido, mocking his self-proclaimed title of “001.”
Wizkid, in a post on Wednesday via X, said, “The only time u’re 001 is when u’re in your house. U’re not 001 of nothing but Instagram followers!”
The Afrobeats heavyweight also took a dig at Davido’s entourage, accusing the singer of surrounding himself with financially dependent individuals, saying, “Naija is a place the rich weaponize poverty so u carry all these broke boys in real life and get them visas so they worship u.”
Wizkid, born Ayodeji Balogun, on Wednesday, also appeared to throw taunts at Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, often dubbed the ‘Dancing Governor,’ saying, “When u see people wey dem papa and family train, u go know! U don’t see my uncle dancing online.”
This jab is seen by many as a reference to Adeleke, who is known for his exuberant dance moves, often shared on social media.
Wizkid didn’t stop there, he responded to claims that Puma, a major global brand, chose to pay Davido more than him.
“No! Puma is a big brand, but the budget they had for Africa wasn’t for me! Was cool for your client tho!” he wrote.
He went on to clarify that he had turned down Puma’s offer, adding, “I turned down Puma cos they could no longer afford to pay me cos I wanted more! Don’t need dat! Way bigger than every artiste u just mentioned!”
In a heated response to Nelson Epega, founder & CEO of Chatter, a social audio-visual platform, who criticised him, Wizkid fired back stating, “First off, you can’t afford me fool! You are doing business with the right person you can afford!”
Epega had previously stated that his company would never do business with Wizkid, describing him as an “uncontrollable psychopath” and praising Davido’s popularity.
In another post, Wizkid taunted Davido’s musical and personal abilities, stating, “You’re not as fly as me, can’t sing or make music like me, u don’t make more money than me.”
He also took shots at Davido’s entourage, calling them “broke” and his lawyer “a dumb ass” for always being around him.
The intense exchange has reignited the long-standing rivalry between the two Afrobeats stars and stirred controversy on social media.
