Interesting to see how the club hierarchy now hard at work on new contracts for Newcastle United players.

Thursday having brought double success to further improve what was already a very strong position when it comes to contracts at St James’ Park.

Newcastle United announcing on Thursday afternoon that Martin Dubravka had agreed a new contract. There was no confirmation in the club’s official release as to how long this new deal was for, however, across the media it was widely reported as the keeper now contracted to the end of June 2026, rather than end of June 2025.

That was then quickly followed by the club revealing that Emil Krafth had agreed an extension, that also taking him up to end of June 2026 now.

How the Newcastle United contracts situation now looks (via official club releases and media reports), when current deals are up:

End of June 2025:

Schar, Wilson, Lascelles, Gillespie, Ruddy, Lewis

End of June 2026:

Burn, Targett, Pope, Longstaff, Ashby, Hayden, Trippier, Krafth, Dubravka

End of June 2027:

Botman, Jacob Murphy, Willock

End of June 2028:

Tonali, Isak, Barnes, Livramento, Bruno, Miley, Joelinton, Alex Murphy

End of June 2029:

Kelly (now on loan at Juventus who have an obligation to buy), Hall, Gordon

A very strong position for Newcastle United when it comes to contracts, with the younger most valuable players having years left on their deals.

Then at the same time, United successfully adding a year onto the contracts of older players such as Krafth and Dubravka. Keeping valued dependable members of the squad but at the same time not having to hand out lengthy contracts for players of a certain age.

Last week, Eddie Howe confirmed that contract talks were ongoing with Fabian Schar. The Swiss defender has previously said that he would be happy to see his contract extended once more, so I think all but certain we will shortly hear he has also had another year added on, taking him up to end of June 2026.

A week ago we also saw The Athletic reveal that Newcastle United have a unilateral option with Callum Wilson. The striker sees his current deal set to end on 30 June 2025 and it is up to the club whether to add another year on, plus they have the luxury of being able to wait until after this season had ended, to decide whether they want to take Wilson up to 30 June 2026.

Other than Callum Wilson, that would then leave only the following seeing their current deals set to conclude at the end of June 2025.

Jamal Lewis leaving for sure. Then Ruddy and Gillespie expected to leave as well, unless kept on in as part of the backroom/coaching team. The last one is Jamaal Lascelles, who will hopefully return from injury before the season is out and his Newcastle United future decided.
