Agatha Harkness has bewitched a promising Disney+ audience in its premiere week.
The first episode of Agatha All Along drew 9.3M views in the first seven days of streaming, according to the Walt Disney Company. Disney, like Netflix, defines views as total stream time divided by runtime.
This appears to be a fairly solid start for the Marvel series, though it’s difficult to compare, because Disney+ has been very selective with the viewership data it releases.
The streamer doesn’t report viewership for every series, and it is also inconsistent with the measurement period it chooses to report for those series it does release data for. It released five-day tallies for The Acolyte and Ahsoka, while Percy Jackson and the Olympians got a six-day report.
Last October, the company said that Loki Season 2 had racked up 10.9M views in its first three days on the platform, but Loki has remained one of the streamer’s strongest performing live-action Marvel series to date.
Disney never released data for Agatha’s predecessor WandaVision, though that series was also quite popular and did break onto the Nielsen streaming charts.
Still, any information at all is usually a sign that the streamer feels confident about the series’ performance. It will be more telling if Disney opts to say anything more about Agatha All Along as the series progresses. Three episodes are now available, with new episodes airing through October.
Nielsen will also help paint a picture of the series’ performance, but those numbers won’t be available for another few weeks. Nielsen streaming reports are a month delayed. This is a strong enough performance that it’s likely Agatha All Along will make it on the overall list at some point.
In Agatha All Along, the infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself down and out of power after the suspicious goth Teen helps break her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they’re missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious Teen pull together a desperate coven and set off down, down, down The Road.
WandaVision head writer Jac Schaeffer serves as showrunner and directs the pilot episode.
In addition to Hahn, Agatha All Along stars Joe Locke, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Paul Adelstein, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Okwui Okpokwasili, with Debra Jo Rupp, with Patti LuPone and Aubrey Plaza.
Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Mary Livanos and Schaeffer executive produce. Directors for the series also include Rachel Goldberg and Gandja Montiero.
