In the dying embers of the winter transfer window, Manchester United saw a relatively longstanding target commit his future to his current club with a contract extension.

Indeed, the Red Devils’ pursuit of ‘world-class’ full-back Alphonso Davies was forced to come to an end when he put pen to paper on a five-year deal with Bayern Munich, therefore ending a year-long transfer saga.

United were among a host of clubs to have been intensely monitoring the Canadian international’s situation, primarily because it had been suggested he was mulling over a new venture away from the Allianz Arena after seven years.

His agent took the opportunity to engage in talks with his potential suitors to gauge their proposals before Davies ultimately opted to stay put with the Bundesliga giants.

In truth, the Reds’ interest would’ve likely come to an end this year anyway due to their recent acquisition of 20-year-old Patrick Dorgu from Lecce and the fact they’re waiting on Luke Shaw, who still has another two years remaining on his terms, returning to action.

Nedal Huoseh, Davies’ representative, spoke to WinWin to provide some insight into the star’s decision.

“Real Madrid was definitely a serious option, and we had conversations with them, as well as with other clubs,” he revealed. “But in the end, a decision had to be made, and that was to stay at Bayern Munich – of course, with all due respect to Real Madrid, who are a huge club, one of the most successful in history.

“It is always an honour for any player to receive an offer from a club like that, as well as from Bayern Munich or other big clubs in the Premier League.

“There was interest from some Spanish clubs, but as you know, we only really spoke to a few clubs, maybe three or four.

“In the Premier League, there was interest from two or three clubs. However, the player’s options were limited – only around five clubs showed genuine interest in signing him. When you leave a club like Bayern Munich, you don’t have many top-level options because you’re already at one of the best clubs in the world. If you look at the top clubs, Bayern are among the best.”
