AICTE allows core branch faculty to teach new and emerging courses

Hyderabad: TSTCEA President Aineni Santosh Kumar has requested Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad (JNTUH) to allow faculty from core engineering branches to teach new and emerging subjects.

On Friday, Kumar mentioned that the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) had sent a circular to JNTUH on March 25. The circular stated that teachers from core branches like Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) and Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) are eligible to teach modern courses such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI&ML), Internet of Things (IoT), and Data Sciences.

Although similar instructions were given earlier, Kumar said that JNTUH seems to ignore AICTE’s guidelines. He stressed that letting faculty from traditional branches teach these new subjects is important for improving education quality.

Kumar also shared concerns that these emerging courses are being taught without proper facilities or enough qualified staff. He said this problem could be solved if faculty from core branches were allowed to teach, as it would help fill the gap in teaching staff.

He further pointed out that, according to AICTE rules, faculty from core branches who have completed at least 10 credits in NPTEL courses or hold an AICTE QIP PG Diploma are qualified to teach these new subjects.
